The Real Reason You Need To Wax And Polish Your Corvette

Anyone and everyone knows that you need to wash your car or vehicle. It keeps dirt, stains, and other debris from sticking to the car, and removes the bird poop that always seems to land on your windshield. Plus, there’s something that just feels really good about driving a freshly washed car. But while everyone knows that you need to wash your vehicle, and there are businesses built up around the idea, for Corvette owners they need to do something else.

They need to polish their Corvettes and make sure that the Corvette gets a nice coat of wax. But why? What do car wax and car polish actually do? Well, that is what this article is going to talk about!

What Is Car Wax and Car Polish?

Car wax and car polish are not the same thing. Instead, they are both two materials that are designed to do different things and need to be applied in the correct order. Car wax is a protective layer that goes on the surface of the car to protect it from airborne contaminants and particles, and it also helps to protect the car from sun damage and oxidation.

Car polish is designed to remove the minor scratches and other imperfections on the car’s surface, and it is also designed to make the shine of the car better. Both of them are very useful for your Corvette, and both of them need to be done correctly.

How Do You Apply Car Polish?

Car polish is something that needs to be applied correctly, and sadly many people lack the knowledge to do this. You need to work in smaller areas that are about 20 by 20 inches, and you also need a good quality microfiber or foam applicator pad. You should put about a nickel sized drop of polish on that pad and rub the polish into the car’s surface using ever widening circles. Move the polish up, down, left, and right until it becomes clear.

As the polish starts to become hazy, then you need to remove it while it is still wet. You don’t want to have to fight with dried on polish.

How Do You Apply Car Wax?

Much like car polish, wax needs to be done in small 20 x 20 areas with a nickel sized amount on the microfiber and foam applicator pad. Keep the coat nice and thin and rub the wax into the car using circular motions, and then once the wax becomes hazy, remove it while it is still wet. You can check your work with both of these processes by examining the car under a well lit area.
