Things To Know Before You Buy Your First Corvette

Since most Corvettes that are not the newest model have long stopped being commercially manufactured, you will need to purchase a used Corvette if you want one. It’s a wonderful car, a car that captures eyes and hearts and makes everyone watch as you pull it into the parking lot. But since you are often purchasing these used cars from sellers and other third parties, you might wonder what you need to know in order to purchase a Corvette safety and make sure you aren’t going to get ripped off.

Here are some of the things you need to know to make your first Corvette purchase a good one.

Is it a Corvette That Has Been Restored With All Of Its Original Parts?

One of the biggest issues with Corvettes is that many of them break down and need to be restored, or maybe the owner decides to make some changes and play around with the parts. This might be a deal breaker for you if you want to purchase a Corvette that is all original, but some Corvettes are made with replacement parts from other Corvettes from different years, or from parts from other cars.

If you want a top quality car, you can’t just rely on the word of the seller alone. Make sure that the Corvette you are looking at is properly certified by these two companies: National Corvette Restorer's Society, and Bloomington Gold. You will see an NCRS certification, and if you aren’t sure you can find an NCRS chapter all over the U.S. to check for you.

Take The Corvette Out For A Test Drive, Both As A Driver and A Passenger

While it does make sense to drive the car yourself, you also will want to have the seller drive you around because you can get a sense of how well cared for the car is. You should make sure that the Corvette you are going to purchase has been well treated. This means that it should be clean, well kept, and should drive like a new car or at least close to it. Additionally, many Corvette owners keep records of the maintenance and repairs of the vehicle, so get a paper trail if you can find one.

Most Corvette owners aren’t going to keep their Corvette out in the weather very often and they aren’t going to use it for their daily drives, so the vehicle should look good and should have low mileage. If the Corvette doesn’t look well cared for, that can be a red flag.

Even if the vehicle does look amazing, don’t be afraid to have a mechanic check it out. They might even be able to recommend some C7 engine bay accessories like the Chrome Plated Throttle Body Cover, the 3 piece Stainless Steel Polished Perforated Fender Covers, and the Stainless Steel, Fuse Box Cover with Stingray logo and "Stingray" Lettering all of which can make your Corvette look amazing!
