Picking The Right C6 Corvette

As the world of C6 Corvettes gets cheaper and cheaper to buy into, and also much more accessible to people who now have the money to buy these cheaper cars, you might wonder which one is going to be the best. Getting any used car can be a minefield of problems and questions that you need to ask, and picking something as classic as a Corvette comes with a few extra steps. But here’s what you need to know when it comes to making a used car your own!

Know Which One Is Right For You

There are a few different models that you can look at whenever it comes to getting a C6 Corvette. You could get the 2005 original model, which is a blast to drive right out of the gate. It comes with a 6.0 liter V-8 engine, and it comes in either a hatchback body with a removable roof or a power soft top convertible. You can also find two transmissions, the Tremec T56 six-speed manual or a 4L65E four-speed automatic.

If you get the Z51 performance package, then you have a Corvette with stiffer bushings, higher spring rates, and bigger shocks. Plus, the stock run flat tires are replaced with Goodyear Eagle FI SC tires.

But if speed is what you are after, you will want to get the 2006 model which features the Z06 trim level. This car was developed alongside, and borrowed parts from the C6.R race car. It comes with a 7.0 liter aspirated LS7 V-8 and 505 horsepower at 6200. It’s a Corvette with a manual transmission, but it packs a serious punch.

You can get plenty of other variants that came out during those C6 years, including the ZR1 which is focused on racetrack domination, or the Grand Sport. It is worth deciding if you want a Corvette that is focused on being a car for the race track, or a car for the open road. But there were a lot of variants released between 2005-2011, and that can be a good thing.

Think About Money

In the world of cars, being cheap doesn’t mean much sometimes. If you want to spend a few thousand dollars less, the older Corvettes from 2005-2007 are going to be the ones that will appeal to you and your pocketbook. But you will lose out on some power and speed.

There are other variants that will be closed off to you if you want a vehicle that can go roofless, or if you want an automatic transmission.

With all the variants released, you will be able to find a Corvette that hits all your boxes. Just make sure that you spruce the car up with some modern amenities. These can include C6 engine bay accessories like the Polished - Stainless Steel, Master Cylinder Cover, the  polished stainless steel Brake Master Cylinder Cover, and the polished stainless steel Alternator Cover. With these, even a used C6 can eventually look like new!
